At the ceremony held at the Embassy of Turkey in Berlin, July 15 martyrs were commemorated, and a message was given that the fight against FETÖ will continue with determination.
In Germany's capital, Berlin, a commemoration ceremony was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Berlin on the occasion of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
Speaking at the ceremony, which began with a minute of silence for the martyrs and the singing of the National Anthem, Turkey's Ambassador to Berlin Gökhan Turan emphasized that the bloody terrorist attack on July 15, 2016, targeted not only the elected government but also Turkey's constitutional order, democracy, and the will of the nation.
"July 15 is a Symbol of Standing Up for Democracy"
Ambassador Turan reminded that 253 citizens were martyred and over 2,000 people were injured in the coup attempt carried out by FETÖ, and stated that the unity and determination displayed by the Turkish nation that night is an example to world democracy history.
Turan stated that July 15 was not just the prevention of a coup, but also a historic turning point where democracy, national will, and popular sovereignty were defended, and said that this year's theme was determined as "Our Will, Our Victory".
"FETÖ is Also a Threat to International Security"
In his speech, Ambassador Turan also touched upon FETÖ's international structure, stating that the organization operates under the guise of education, trade, and civil society, and is involved in illegal activities that threaten public order in many countries.
Turan stated that FETÖ poses a serious security risk not only for Turkey but also for the democratic institutions of the countries in which it operates, and said that significant blows have been dealt to the organization's structures in many countries through international cooperation.
"The Fight Will Continue with Determination"
Turan stated that the Republic of Turkey continues its fight against all national and international threats, especially FETÖ, within the framework of international law, and emphasized that the death of the organization's leader, Fethullah Gülen, will not cause any slackening in the fight.
Turan stated that state institutions are resolutely continuing their efforts to fully uncover and neutralize FETÖ's domestic and international structures.
Documentary Screening and Photo Exhibition
The commemoration program concluded with prayers for the martyrs. As part of the event, participants watched a documentary detailing the events of the night of July 15 and visited a photo exhibition reflecting the struggle against the coup attempt.
