The 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will be held in Antalya from November 9-20. Preparations for the summit are ongoing in many areas such as security, transportation, health, and logistics. The tourism sector is also preparing for high attendance.

Heads of state and official delegations will stay in facilities in Belek and Kundu. Visitors attending the conference individually, however, mostly prefer historic Kaleiçi.

Historic Hotels Nearing 100% Occupancy

There are approximately 180 accommodation establishments in Kaleiçi. November reservations are largely full. Alp Özel, President of the Antalya Tourist Hoteliers and Pensioners Association (ANTOB), stated that there is high demand on online reservation channels. Özel noted that some establishments have closed their sales for the COP31 period.

Alp Özel reminded that Kaleiçi, with its 2,500-year history, offers a blend of Greek, Seljuk, and Ottoman architecture. Özel stated that they are preparing to host international guests in this unique historical atmosphere.

Sustainability-Focused Projects Being Implemented

In line with COP31's main theme, environmentally friendly practices are planned for Kaleiçi. Recycling will be expanded, plastic use will be reduced, and energy saving will be increased. The entry of fossil-fueled vehicles into the historic area will also be restricted.

These efforts aim to highlight Kaleiçi as a sustainable tourism center contributing to zero-carbon targets.

Turkish Culture and Gastronomy to Be Prominent

Various events are planned for guests visiting Antalya within the scope of COP31 to introduce them to Turkish culture. Local delicacies will be served in restaurants, and traditional Turkish handicraft workshops will be organized.
