Deputy Government Spokesperson Sebastian Hille, at a press conference in Berlin, evaluated the statement by Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir that "30-40 attacks should be carried out on Gaza every night."
Hille said, "Chancellor Merz strongly condemns Ben-Gvir's inhumane and unlawful calls. These are unacceptable." Hille pointed out that at the last European Council meeting, a decision was made to prepare targeted measures against radical politicians who call for actions contrary to human dignity and international law, adding that foreign ministers would address this issue at the Gymnich meeting.
Hille conveyed that Chancellor Merz is following the Israeli government's recent steps in the West Bank with great concern, stating that this concern has been expressed repeatedly.
Sebastian Hille stated that Merz's message was, "No further annexation steps should be taken in the West Bank. Neither official steps nor political, developmental, or other measures whose effects increasingly clearly result in annexation. These constitute an obstacle to the two-state solution."
Hille added that Chancellor Merz's demand is for occupying Israel to treat Palestinians humanely, protect their property, and provide public services and humanitarian aid.
