The results of the poll conducted by YouGov for the German News Agency (DPA) between August 14-17 have been announced. According to the poll, which was conducted with 2,091 participants, 36 percent of participants believe that Chancellor Friedrich Merz will continue in office this year but will step down before the legislative term ends, meaning before 2029.

18 percent of the poll participants, on the other hand, stated that they expect Merz to leave office within this year.

The rate of those who believe Merz will remain in the chancellorship until the next elections in 2029 remained at 29 percent. 17 percent of participants did not express an opinion on this matter.

In July, personnel changes were made in the cabinet, the parliamentary group of the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) parties, and the CDU leadership. When asked whether these changes increased Merz's authority within the party, 36 percent of participants stated that it "significantly" reduced his authority. 31 percent stated that it reduced it "somewhat."

The rate of those who believe the changes "significantly" increased Merz's authority was only 1 percent. 5 percent stated that it increased his authority "somewhat." 19 percent of participants stated that these personnel changes neither increased nor decreased Merz's authority.
