A violent incident occurred at a private school in Gosen-Neu Zittau, Brandenburg state, Germany. According to initial reports, two people lost their lives. The assailant was taken into custody.
The incident took place on the campus of Docemus Private School. Numerous teams were dispatched to the region following reports to the police. According to information received, the 19-year-old suspect allegedly stabbed his 18-year-old ex-girlfriend, who was a student at the school, to death. A 30-year-old school caretaker who tried to intervene also lost his life in the attack.
The young assailant was quickly apprehended and taken into custody by police teams. Police announced that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. It was stated that there is currently no other threat around the school. While the campus is surrounded by a wide security cordon, armed teams are continuing their investigations in the area.
Students at the school experienced great shock after the incident. Some students were kept in the school gym until the evening. Psychological support teams are assisting students and their families. Brandenburg Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) expressed his deep sorrow in a statement. Woidke stated, "Our schools should have been a home for our young people. Today, a school here has become the scene of unimaginable violence." Authorities reported that efforts to fully clarify all aspects of the incident are ongoing. A large-scale investigation has been launched.
