According to reports in the German press, an attempt to cause a short circuit was detected at an energy facility in Dormagen, North Rhine-Westphalia state. Police received a letter claiming responsibility for the act after the incident.

Following successive sabotage attempts targeting energy grids nationwide and the emergence of a letter claiming responsibility for the acts, security forces raised the alarm level to the highest degree.

Meanwhile, a transformer station in the northern town of Ganderkesee was also cordoned off due to suspicious circumstances.

Search Launched to Apprehend Suspect

Expanding their investigation after the sabotage attempt in Dormagen, security forces also began examining the Weisweiler transformer station near Aachen. A police spokesperson announced that the letter claiming responsibility also contained a new attack threat targeting this facility, and teams were searching the area for suspicious ignition mechanisms.

It was claimed in the letter that the justification for the acts was the fight against fossil fuels. Upon the assessment that a man living in Gevelsberg was behind the sabotages, police launched a large-scale search to apprehend the suspect.

Sabotage Wave Continues

In Germany, two more major sabotage incidents targeting the energy grid had occurred since the beginning of the week. Due to an act of vandalism carried out at a transformer station in Bergheim, lignite power plant units with a total capacity of 4,200 megawatts had been temporarily disconnected from the grid.

Simultaneously, one of the most critical high-voltage lines in Brandenburg state had also been damaged using devices containing conductive materials.
