Berlin, the capital of Germany, has decided to withdraw from the application process Germany was conducting for an Olympic bid in 2026. Just days before the candidate city is to be determined for Germany to host the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Olympic Games, Berlin is preparing to withdraw its application.

According to news from Berlin and Brandenburg region's public broadcaster (RBB), the Berlin administration will officially withdraw from its Olympic bid. While the Berlin Senate did not make a statement on the matter initially, it announced that a press conference would be held on Thursday.

Before the decision, Berlin's Governing Mayor and Mayor Kai Wegner, Sports Senator Iris Spranger, and Berlin's official responsible for the Olympics, Kaweh Niroomand, held a meeting.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), which will determine Germany's Olympic candidate city, will announce its decision on Saturday. Before the decision, Berlin was considered a city with lower chances in the bid race, trailing behind Munich and the Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr region.
