TÜRGEM (Turkish Community Education and Culture Center) executives visited Lübeck Mayor Jan Lindenau in his office as part of their traditional New Year courtesy visits, sharing the association's 2026 activity plan and 2025 work report.

The visit, which was delayed this year due to the prolonged winter season, took place on Monday, July 6, 2026 at Lübeck City Hall. During the meeting, TÜRGEM's cultural, social, and educational activities, along with projects for the upcoming period, were discussed comprehensively.

Support requested for 2026 activities

TÜRGEM representatives presented Mayor Lindenau with the association's comprehensive activity report for 2025 and provided information about conferences, cultural events, and social projects planned for 2026. During the meeting, potential support from the Lübeck Municipality for these activities was also discussed.

Mayor Jan Lindenau reviewed the approximately 30-page activity report page by page, made assessments regarding some events he had previously attended, and appreciated TÜRGEM's contributions to urban life.

37-year archive to be transferred to Lübeck City Archive

One of the important agenda items of the meeting was TÜRGEM's celebration of its 37th anniversary this year.

Association officials announced that, as a result of discussions with the Lübeck City Archive Management, an agreement was reached to submit important project files and institutional archives prepared over the years to the Lübeck City Archive to contribute to the city's cultural memory.

Mayor Lindenau welcomed this initiative, noting that the work in question holds significant value for the city's history.

Ilyas Yiğit's meaningful gesture draws attention

One of the notable figures of the visit was 8-year-old Ilyas Yiğit.

Ilyas Yiğit, who presented flowers to Mayor Jan Lindenau, greeted the Mayor with the words, "Mr. Mayor, it was a great pleasure to meet you." His confidence and courtesy, despite his young age, earned the admiration of those present at the meeting.

Mayor Lindenau also took a keen interest in Ilyas Yiğit, conversed with him, and expressed his satisfaction with the answers he received to his questions.

City issues and social topics also discussed

TÜRGEM members participating in the visit had the opportunity to introduce themselves, while various social issues and citizens' demands were also shared with the Mayor. Mayor Lindenau listened carefully to the raised topics and took notes.

Visit concludes with evaluation meeting in city square

Following the meeting at the City Hall, the TÜRGEM delegation gathered in Lübeck city square to evaluate the visit. During the gathering, where cordial conversations continued, Ilyas Yiğit's curiosity about history, culture, and social values was also appreciated by the participants.

TÜRGEM officials expressed their belief that the constructive dialogue maintained with the Lübeck Municipality will make significant contributions to cultural and social projects to be carried out in the upcoming period.
