The German Social Democratic Party (SPD) issued a statement on its social media account, congratulating Özgür Özel and his companions on the new party they announced they would establish.

In its statement, the SPD said that the removal of the democratically elected CHP administration, the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu and numerous mayors and local administrators, as well as the pressures on elected mayors and opposition representatives, constituted a serious attack on democracy in Turkey.

The statement emphasized that, despite all pressures, the democratic opposition's determined continuation of its struggle deserved respect and solidarity.

 The SPD stated that it would continue to stand by all democrats in Turkey.
