The CHP Berlin Union, operating in Berlin, the capital of Germany, announced their decision to continue their struggle in the new party established by Özgür Özel and his associates.
CHP Berlin Union President Prof. Dr. Ziya Akçetin stated in his declaration that important decisions were taken unanimously at the meeting held on July 23, 2026.
Akçetin stated that the board members continue their loyalty to the CHP and Atatürk's principles and revolutions, adding that despite this, they decided to support the new political formation established by Özgür Özel and his team. Akçetin said, “We openly declare that we are against all management approaches based on nullification and trusteeship.”
Akçetin, also addressing the developments following the absolute nullity decision within the CHP, stated that they do not accept the current management approach. Emphasizing that the decision taken does not mean moving away from the fundamental values of the CHP, Akçetin used the expressions, “This step is not abandoning the ancestral home, but a struggle to uphold Atatürk's legacy.”
Akçetin noted that the CHP Berlin Union will continue to be guided by Atatürk's principles and revolutions, the fundamental values of the Republic, democracy, secularism, social justice, and the rule of law, and stated that they will continue their political struggle within the new structure formed with Özgür Özel and his companions.
Akçetin also made evaluations regarding the merger process carried out in Berlin between the CHP Berlin Union and the CHP Social Democrats Berlin Union, stating that they concluded that the conditions in the protocol accepted at the general assemblies held for the purpose of merger on March 29 and May 10, 2026, were not fully met. He stated that for this reason, a consensus was reached in the board of directors that the merger did not legally take place.
Akçetin announced that within this scope, a decision was made to hold an Extraordinary General Assembly before the end of August, and informed that the call for the general assembly would be conveyed to the members in accordance with the bylaws.
Akçetin stated that the CHP Berlin Union will maintain its current association structure, and said that the association's office, bank accounts, and member information would not be transferred to any other association. Akçetin further stated that a new association named “Yeni Parti Berlin e.V.” (New Party Berlin e.V.) was established as a precautionary measure against possible legal processes, and its registration procedures are ongoing.
Akçetin, also calling on democracy and Republic supporters in Berlin, said that after the new party is officially established, they will invite citizens to become members of both the association and the new party. Akçetin stated that the new management would also be determined at the ordinary general assembly to be held after the summer holiday.
