With the start of summer holidays in Bavaria, Nuremberg Albrecht Dürer Airport is entering its busiest period of the year. The airport, which is expected to host approximately 788,000 departing and arriving passengers throughout the holiday season, is preparing to maintain last year's record passenger numbers.

A total of 21 airlines operate from Nuremberg Airport, with approximately 55 direct destinations served. In addition to popular European holiday resorts, non-stop connections are also offered to important points in North Africa and on different continents.

Nuremberg Airport CEO Dr. Michael Hupe stated in his assessment of the summer season that significant investments to enhance passenger comfort have been completed.

Hupe said, "For many, the best weeks of the year begin at Nuremberg Airport. Thanks to new CT scanners at security checkpoints, our innovative services, and the great dedication of our employees, we are fully prepared for the summer season. Whether it's a family holiday in the Mediterranean, a city trip, or a long-haul journey via international transfer hubs, we reliably connect the metropolitan region to the world."

Busiest Days in August and September

Among the airlines expected to carry the most passengers during the summer season, Corendon Airlines, Marabu Airlines, and SunExpress stand out.

The busiest days at the airport are expected to be;

  • Monday, August 3
  • Friday, September 7
  • Monday, September 14

with the daily passenger count estimated to reach approximately 20,000 on these dates.

Antalya: Holidaymakers' First Choice

Among summer holiday routes departing from Nuremberg, Antalya is by far the top choice.

Expected passenger numbers are as follows:

  • Antalya: more than 133,000 passengers
  • Palma de Mallorca: Approximately 108,000 passengers
  • Heraklion (Crete): Approximately 35,000 passengers
  • Hurghada (Egypt): Among highly demanded destinations

This season, Bodrum and Rabat, the capital of Morocco, are also among the new and notable holiday routes accessible from Nuremberg.

Istanbul: The Most Important Transfer Point

For reaching destinations without direct flights, Istanbul continues to be the most preferred transfer hub for Nuremberg passengers.

Approximately 42,000 passengers are expected to use Istanbul-connected flights, especially for travel to Asian countries.

In second place is approximately Frankfurt with 35,000 passengers. In addition, connecting flights offered by Air France via Paris and KLM via Amsterdam also see strong interest.

Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport, which is the main hub for Pegasus Airlines, also stands out as one of the important transfer hubs.

Over 260 Staff on Duty for Passengers

To ensure smooth travel for passengers during the busy summer season, over 260 employees are directly providing services at the airport.

In passenger operations:

  • 120 check-in and boarding agents,
  • 23 disabled passenger (PRM) service staff,
  • 16 lost baggage agents,
  • 16 ticket sales staff,
  • 10 information desk agents,
  • 85 temporary employees

are actively on duty.

Flight Operations Continue 24 Hours Non-Stop

The Airport Operations Center, with 53 permanent staff and additional temporary employees, ensures flights operate safely and on time 24 hours a day.

In addition:

  • 84 employees in baggage sorting,
  • 143 employees in aircraft loading and unloading,
  • 49 employees in cabin cleaning,
  • 40 employees in apron passenger transport,
  • 16 employees in push-back services.

All operations are coordinated by the central planning unit, while the airport fire department, technical teams, and air traffic control units also work non-stop for safe flights.

Security Checks Accelerated

Nuremberg Airport has completely modernized its security checkpoints before the summer season.

Thanks to new-generation CT scanners, passengers can now pass through security without removing laptops, tablets, and electronic devices from their hand luggage. Additionally, up to 2 liters of liquids can be carried in hand luggage in suitable and sealed containers.

Officials state that these innovations will significantly speed up security checks and reduce passenger waiting times.
