A Lufthansa Airbus A380 struck the lighting system alongside the runway while landing at Munich Airport from San Francisco. 351 passengers were safely evacuated in the incident. The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) launched an investigation.

Lufthansa stated that the BFU had initiated an investigation and that the company was providing full support to the inquiry. BFU teams arrived at the airport and took possession of the aircraft's flight recorders for examination.

The approximately 13-year-old Airbus A380 arriving from San Francisco reportedly failed to maintain the runway centerline precisely during landing and consequently struck the lighting. The exact cause of the incident has not yet been announced.

Also on the same runway two days prior, a Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner experienced a serious incident during takeoff. The aircraft proceeded to the end of the runway, then returned to the airport and burst some of its tires during a safe landing.

In the preliminary investigation report regarding the Vietnam Airlines incident, a technical issue with the aircraft's acceleration was stated as one of the possible causes of the near-accident.

Following these two incidents occurring in quick succession at Munich Airport, the results of the investigation into the Lufthansa A380's landing are eagerly awaited.
