Ahead of the 20th Berlin State Parliament (Abgeordnetenhaus) and District Councils (BVV) elections, to be held in Berlin on September 20, 2026, Türkische Bund in Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. (TBB) is launching a comprehensive campaign to increase voter turnout.

The campaign, which particularly aims for more active participation in the election process by Berliners of Turkish origin and young people voting for the first time, was announced to the public five weeks before the elections.

TBB to Conduct Information Campaign on Streets and in Workplaces

Within the scope of the campaign to be carried out by TBB, citizens will be directly reached on the streets and in workplaces. Information will be provided about how the elections work, the voting process, and their importance for Berlin's future.

The first event of the campaign will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 5:00 PM, and the second event on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 3:00 PM.

The meeting point for both activities will be in front of TBB’s central office in Berlin, located at Oranienstraße 53, 10969 Berlin.

Special Information for First-Time Voters

In addition to face-to-face activities, TBB will also provide information to voters through its own newsletter and social media channels. Special emphasis will be placed on informing first-time voters about the Berlin election system and the voting process.

Also within the scope of the campaign, question and demand files called “Wahlprüfsteine”, containing demands TBB considers important, were sent to political parties participating in the elections. It was reported that the parties' answers would later be shared with the public.

TBB Calls for Election Participation in Berlin: "Go to the Polls, Strengthen Democracy"

“Elections Are of Great Importance for Berlin’s Future”

TBB emphasized that it is of great importance for all voters living in Berlin to have sufficient information about the elections and their effects on the social, economic, and political development of the capital in the coming years.

In the statement, Berliners were also called upon to uphold democracy and ensure high participation in the elections. TBB particularly drew attention to the importance of democratic voters going to the polls against the strengthening of right-wing populism and the far-right, stating that high voter turnout will contribute to strengthening democratic representation in Berlin.

Berlin Goes to the Polls on September 20

On September 20, 2026, voters in Berlin will go to the polls to elect both representatives for the Berlin State Parliament and members of the District Assemblies (Bezirksverordnetenversammlung - BVV) who will serve in the districts.

With the campaign launched by TBB, the aim is for citizens of immigrant origin and Berliners of Turkish origin, in particular, to show stronger participation in democratic processes.
