Thailand is increasingly relying on social media content creators to influence travel decisions in international markets. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), as part of the TikTok LIVE Community Fest 2026 organized in collaboration with TikTok Thailand, brought together over 300 content creators in Bangkok. The experiences participants had in the city formed the basis for travel content that would reach their own follower bases.
At the heart of the program, held on August 25, was Song Wat, a historic commercial district along the Chao Phraya River. Content creators from Southeast Asia, the Caucasus, and Central Asia explored the district. The event concluded with a gala held at TRUE ICON HALL within ICONSIAM.
From Destination Experience to Travel Decision
The event is part of TAT's approach, which it defines as “Creator-Powered Tourism.” This approach utilizes the relationship content creators build with their social media communities for destination promotion. The model aims to reach potential visitors through a more personal communication channel than traditional advertising campaigns.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool stated, “Thanks to our collaboration with TikTok Thailand, we are bringing unique experiences in Thailand to audiences around the world, thereby implementing the Creator-Powered Tourism approach.”
Kiatphaibool emphasized that digital content is becoming increasingly decisive in travel preferences. “Travel decisions begin with the content people watch, trust, and share online. When content creators personally experience Thailand and tell these stories from their own perspectives, they can transform discovery into inspiration, and inspiration into a desire to travel. At the same time, they can bring our culture, cuisine, local communities, and contemporary way of life closer to their followers,” he said.
Song Wat Transformed into Content Creators' Stage
Content creators from Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore, as well as from the Caucasus and Central Asian markets, explored Song Wat's architecture, history, riverside cultural heritage, and gastronomy as part of the Team Rally.
The program included tuk-tuk tours in the nearly century-old commercial district. Traditional shops and local businesses were also visited. Instead of a standard promotional campaign, the aim was for participants to transform their own observations and encounters into content unique to their audiences.
With this method, TAT aims for destination discovery, which begins on social media, to first turn into travel inspiration, and then into a concrete idea of a trip to Thailand.
Over 300,000 Baht in Travel Prizes
As part of the event, a competition was also organized among teams of content creators. Winners received Thailand travel packages with a total value exceeding 300,000 Baht.
The results were announced during the Victory Celebration Gala held at TRUE ICON HALL in ICONSIAM. Events bringing together content creators and their followers were organized during the night. Additionally, five regional TikTok LIVE Community Fest 2026 awards found their recipients; artists, actors, and content creators also took the stage.
Social Media Communities: The New Channel for Tourism Marketing
The collaboration between TAT and TikTok demonstrates Thailand's effort to move its international destination marketing beyond traditional advertising and media campaigns. Content creators not only provide broad digital reach but also offer the opportunity to directly connect with communities that regularly follow them and trust their posts.
By bringing international content creators to Thailand and enabling them to tell the destination's story from their own perspectives, TAT aims to directly deliver travel stories about Thailand to potential visitors in selected source markets. The goal is thus to transform digital reach and personal recommendations into concrete travel interest for Thailand. Visual: AI-generated image using TAT material
