Enver Şimşek, who was murdered by the far-right NSU terrorist organization in Germany, will be commemorated in Nuremberg with a ceremony on the 26th anniversary of his death. The commemoration program, to be organized by the Consulate General of Nuremberg, will take place at the scene of the incident on Liegnitzer Straße, where Şimşek was attacked on September 9, 2000.

In Nuremberg, Enver Şimşek, the first victim of the NSU murders, will be commemorated on the 26th anniversary of his murder. Three NSU victims in Nuremberg

Enver Şimşek went down in history as the first known murder victim of the NSU terrorist organization in Germany. After Şimşek, in Nuremberg, Abdurrahim Özüdoğru and İsmail Yaşar also became victims of the NSU murders.

Tailor Abdurrahim Özüdoğru was murdered in Nuremberg on June 13, 2001, while İsmail Yaşar was murdered on June 9, 2005.

These murders committed in Nuremberg turned into a great pain and a struggle for justice for the victims' relatives over the years.

His Daughter Semiya Şimşek Wrote a Book About Her Father's Story

Enver Şimşek's daughter Semiya Şimşek recounted the events following her father's murder and the difficult process her family faced in her book titled “Acı Vatan” (Bitter Homeland).

In her book, Semiya Şimşek drew attention to the pain her family experienced, stating that the true extent of the trauma and loss they endured for years was not sufficiently understood.

The experiences of the Şimşek family became one of the significant examples of the difficulties faced by victims' relatives in the NSU murders.

Fought for His Life for Two Days in Hospital

Enver Şimşek, on September 9, 2000, was shot by NSU terrorists Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt inside his vehicle where he was selling flowers in Nuremberg.

Şimşek, who was severely wounded in the close-range armed attack, was taken to the hospital. Enver Şimşek, who fought for his life for two days, passed away on September 11, 2000.

Şimşek's murder marked the beginning of the chain of NSU murders that later came to light.

His Dream Was to Be a Police Officer

Enver Şimşek, who was born in 1961 in the Şarkikaraağaç district of Isparta, spent his childhood in Salur village. Şimşek, who grew up intertwined with nature, worked as a shepherd in his youth.

One of Şimşek's biggest dreams, who loved telling his children about the days he spent in the village and mountains, was to be a police officer. Unable to realize this dream, Şimşek immigrated to Germany at the age of 24.

Şimşek, who arrived in Germany in November 1985, established his family there and started working in the floristry sector.

Day of the Murder: September 9, 2000

On the morning of September 9, 2000, around 9:00 AM, Enver Şimşek came to Liegnitzer Straße in Nuremberg to sell flowers.

Şimşek, who normally dealt with the purchase and delivery of flowers to stands and shops, had taken over the duty that day in place of his employee who was on leave.

Şimşek, who parked his vehicle and placed the flower bouquets next to it, then got into his car. During this time, he was subjected to an armed attack by NSU terrorists.

Şimşek, who was severely wounded in the attack involving two different pistols, was taken to the hospital. However, despite all medical interventions, he passed away two days later.

“It Must Not Be Forgotten and Must Not Be Allowed to Be Forgotten”

The commemoration ceremony to be held on the 26th anniversary of Enver Şimşek's death will not only remember the victims of the NSU murders but also draw attention to the devastation caused by far-right terror in Germany.
