Söder spoke at the traditional Gillamoos festival held in Abensberg.

Söder, stating that Russia has always posed a threat to Germany and Europe, used the expressions, "But you could trust the Americans. Can we still do that today?"

Söder noted that he greatly admires the values represented by the US, but despite this, he stated that he can no longer understand some of Washington's strategic decisions.

Söder said, "Because we can no longer understand them (the US), because we don't know if they are 100 percent on our side, and because they probably no longer have enough ammunition to protect us, we are currently strengthening the German army."

Söder emphasized that Germany is strengthening its army "more than ever before" and noted that manpower, as well as material, is needed to protect freedom.

Söder used the expression, "Everyone who loves a country, wants to protect a country, and is in favor of freedom and democracy, should also be ready to serve their country."
