According to the latest public opinion poll in Germany, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) maintained its lead with 28% of the vote. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) fell to 12%, trailing behind the Green Party. Dissatisfaction with Chancellor Merz's government also reached notable levels.

According to the Insa research firm's poll, the AfD remained the strongest party with 28%, despite losing one point. The Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union Parties (CDU/CSU) alliance, meanwhile, placed second with 21%.

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) fell one point to 12%. The Green Party, meanwhile, increased its vote share to 14%, surpassing the SPD. The combined vote share of the ruling Christian Union Parties (CDU/CSU) and the SPD remained at 33%. This figure is significantly below the 45% support they achieved in the 2025 general elections.

The poll results showed increasing dissatisfaction with the personal performance of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. While 75% of participants stated they were not satisfied with Merz's work, only 18% expressed a positive opinion. The dissatisfaction rate with the coalition government of the Christian Union Parties (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) was measured at 74%. The proportion of those satisfied with the government remained at 19%.

On the other hand, Chancellor Friedrich Merz made changes in the government and party leadership after the departure of Jens Spahn, the parliamentary group leader of the Christian Union Parties (CDU/CSU). In this context, Health Minister Nina Warken became the Head of the Chancellery. Carsten Linnemann, General Secretary of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), will take over the position of Health Minister. Philipp Amthor, Minister of State for Digitalization, will serve as Minister of State for relations with the states in the Chancellery.

Merz is reportedly planning to part ways with Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder. However, this change has not yet occurred because Fritz Güntzler, the CDU finance expert he considered as a replacement, decided not to accept the position.
