The number of unemployed in Germany remained above the 3 million mark in August, despite recent positive economic signals and the continued stagnation in the labor market.

The German Federal Employment Agency (BA) announced the August figures regarding unemployment.

Accordingly, the number of unemployed in the country increased by 54,000 in August compared to the previous month, and by 36,000 people compared to the same month last year, reaching 3 million 61 thousand.

The unemployment rate in the country, which was 6.4 percent in July, rose to 6.5 percent in August.

Andrea Nahles, President of the Federal Employment Agency, whose assessment was included in the statement, stated that the sluggish trend in the labor market continued in recent months, and used the expression, "The labor market did not show significant dynamism in August beyond traditional seasonal effects."

The number of unemployed in Germany had exceeded the 3 million mark for the first time since April in July, with the start of the summer holiday period.

Experts state that the regular increase in unemployment observed since July is due to seasonal effects as well as the cyclical weakness in the economy.

It is predicted that the increasing growth signals in the economy recently could positively reflect on the labor market in the coming period.
