NSU Victim Habil Kılıç Commemorated

Habil Kılıç, murdered by NSU terrorists, was commemorated on the 25th anniversary in front of the shop where he was killed.

Habil Kılıç, who was killed on August 29, 2001, by the racist terrorist organization NSU in Germany, was commemorated on the 25th anniversary of his death in front of the workplace where he was murdered in Munich. Messages of unity and solidarity against racism and far-right violence were given at the ceremony.

KILIÇ COMMEMORATED AT THE PLACE HE WAS MURDERED

The commemoration ceremony organized by the Munich Turkish Council was held in front of Habil Kılıç's workplace at Bad-Schachener-Str. 14 where he lost his life 25 years ago.

Attending the ceremony were Murat Kemaloğlu, Consul of Turkey in Munich, Markus Rinderspacher, Deputy Speaker of the Bavarian State Parliament, Mahmut Türker, FDP East District Chairman, Sami Demirel, Chairman of Türkenrat München, and Gonca Onal, Türkenrat representative.

Also present at the commemoration were Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hacısalihoğlu and Prof. Dr. Kemal Orak from the LMU Turkology Department, and Asgar Can, representing the Bavarian Integration Council.

Representatives of civil society organizations in and around Munich, association executives, and numerous guests also attended the commemoration and remembered Habil Kılıç.

“WE WILL NOT FORGET HABIL KILIÇ”

Sami Demirel, Chairman of Türkenrat München, in his speech at the ceremony, reminded that Habil Kılıç was murdered at his workplace 25 years ago.

Demirel, drawing attention to the NSU murders, stated that racist terror in Germany is not limited to the NSU murders alone.

Demirel, also recalling the attacks in Solingen, Mölln, Munich's Olympia-Einkaufszentrum, and Hanau, drew attention to the painful traces left by racist violence in society.

Emphasizing that those who lost their lives should not be forgotten, Demirel conveyed the message, “We will not forget Habil Kılıç.”

“RACISM THREATENS THE ENTIRE SOCIETY”

Demirel, calling on all segments of society to stand against racism, far-right extremism, fanaticism, antisemitism, and Islamophobia, emphasized the importance of a common struggle.

Stating that racism threatens not only a specific community but the entire society, Demirel said that different segments must act together.

Demirel expressed their solidarity with victims of violence, no matter where they are in the world.

“THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR NSU MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE”

Sami Demirel said that all those responsible for and supporting NSU and similar structures must be held accountable.

Demirel, calling for the determined continuation of the social, political, and legal struggle concerning the NSU complex, drew attention to the importance of shedding light on all dimensions of racist terror.

“WE SEE GERMANY AS OUR HOME”

Stating that people of Turkish origin living in Germany are an inseparable part of society, Demirel said that peaceful coexistence must be strengthened.

Demirel, stating that mutual understanding and respect for the expectations of different segments will strengthen social belonging, emphasized that problems should not be ignored.

He conveyed the message, “Continuous and collective effort is needed for successful coexistence.”

NSU'S 10 VICTIMS COMMEMORATED

At the commemoration ceremony, 10 people who lost their lives in racist murders committed by NSU across Germany were also respectfully remembered.

In addition to the victims, among whom were eight Turkish citizens, a moment of silence was observed for all those who lost their lives due to racism.

Messages of unity, togetherness, and solidarity stood out at the ceremony.

“WE WILL NOT FORGET, WE WILL FIGHT”

The Munich Turkish Council aims to keep the memory of Habil Kılıç and other victims of racist terror alive through its annual commemoration program.

At the ceremony, it was emphasized that social awareness must be increased to ensure that the pains of the past are not forgotten and to prevent new racist attacks.

Sami Demirel thanked the individuals and organizations who supported the commemoration program.

The commemoration ceremony held on the 25th anniversary of Habil Kılıç's death concluded with the messages “we will not forget” and “we will fight together against racism.”
