Frankfurt extends an invitation to Turkish theater and cinema actors in Germany.
Educator, actress, and writer Derya Şahin invited aspiring actors raised in two cultures to a practical workshop titled “Bilingualism in Acting” on September 26 and 27, 2026.
The “Mehrsprachigkeit im Schauspiel / Multilingualism in Acting” workshop, which will take place in Frankfurt, aims to transform the linguistic and cultural experiences of multilingual actors raised between two cultures into conscious artistic resources. The pilot project, prepared with the support of Hessen Film & Medien, also aims to bring together actors and industry professionals from Germany and Turkey, creating opportunities for new professional connections and international collaborations.

The free workshop, developed to support the professional and artistic development of multilingual actors of Turkish origin raised in Germany, and attended by industry professionals from Turkey and Germany, will cover topics such as German and Turkish on-camera acting practice, international casting processes, audition preparation, artist rights, and awareness in the film industry.
Actors can apply for the program via thespianartschool.com. The training days will be held in Frankfurt, at ‘Nextstep Film- & Gründungszenteum’. No workshop fee will be charged to participants for the training. Project coordinator Derya Şahin emphasized that the number of participants will be limited and applications should be made as soon as possible.

Şahin stated that she aims for bilingual actors to gain new perspectives internationally and contribute to their professional development, adding that there will be subsequent formats after the two-day workshop.
Project manager Derya Şahin invited young Turkish artists to the two-day workshop
Derya Şahin said, “I have been observing for years. Many actors of Turkish origin living in Germany possess strong acting skills, as well as valuable multilingual and intercultural experiences for international productions. All we need is more connections to bring these talents together and create access to the Turkish film industry.
It's not just about talent; it's about being aware in this film field and working with the right people in the industry.
But the film industry is extremely difficult. It requires endless training within the field.
I also experienced similar difficulties in this process. I have been doing theater for 10 years, but artists need platforms where they can prove themselves.
Some of our young actors may encounter linguistic differences when acting in two languages. Our aim here is to treat multilingualism not as an obstacle for actors, but as a resource that can enhance an actor's artistic expressive power.
Language and diction are areas that can be developed through training and practice. The goal here is not only to use language correctly, but to enable the actor to convey the same emotion and character depth in both languages.
Our pilot project, prepared with the support of Hessen Film & Medien, a renowned public institution in the field of film and art in Frankfurt, allows actors to evaluate their linguistic and cultural experiences as conscious artistic resources. It aims to bring new perspectives to multilingual acting and develop creative potentials. The program encourages professional exchange, international cooperation, and the establishment of new professional connections by bringing together actors and industry professionals from Germany and Turkey,” she said.
In addition to acting in Germany, Derya Şahin has appeared in 'Arka Sokaklar', 'Mevsim Çiçek Açtı', and 'Kül' in Turkey. In Frankfurt, she actively participates as a producer and actress in theater projects with the intercultural and women-themed theater group called 'Renkli Kadınlar'.

<New math book to be published
Derya Şahin, who also continues her mathematics teaching in Frankfurt, expressed her feelings by saying, “I have a very sacred profession. I love it very much. I also love media, theater, cinema, and being in front of the camera. But teaching is the meaning of life. It is expressed in German as 'Lebenssinn'. It reflects my outlook on life. To help people, to be influential in my students' paths. I graduated my 10th grade a few months ago, and I am very happy when my students give feedback. Supporting my students nourishes me. I have students studying medicine. This makes me very proud. I put a lot of effort into making students love mathematics and helping them succeed.”
Derya Şahin is also a successful writer. Stating that she prepared her third mathematics resource book, which middle and high school students can benefit from, during the summer holidays, Derya Şahin announced that her work will be on shelves next year. Şahin noted that while preparing the book, she did not ignore students' interest in social media and used it extensively in examples, saying, “The examples include terms they use. It's both more convincing and more engaging, increasing focus. In school, attention is always scattered. We often have to jump from one topic to another. As they watch TikTok videos, their interest and focus decrease, and they want to switch quickly. As their teachers, we think a lot about how we can attract their attention to the topics we cover and make plans. This summer, instead of going on holiday, I prepared a supplementary math book that I believe will be beneficial for our students. Westermann publishing house will release it next year.”
Derya Şahin stated that art nourishes her as much as mathematics. Şahin said, “I have to do my teaching job properly. But I also need to nourish my soul with art. Both education and art are about touching people, inspiring them, and leaving a mark. I find myself at the intersection of these two fields.” Source: https://egazete.de
