Executives of the Turkish Community Education and Culture Center (TÜRGEM) visited Lübeck Mayor Jan Lindenau in his office as part of their traditional New Year courtesy calls. The association shared its 2026 activity plan and 2025 work report with Mayor Lindenau.

The visit, which was delayed due to the prolonged winter season, took place at Lübeck City Hall on Monday, July 6, 2026. During the meeting, TÜRGEM's work in cultural, social, and educational fields, as well as projects for the upcoming period, were discussed comprehensively.

Request for support for 2026 activities

TÜRGEM representatives presented Mayor Lindenau with the association's comprehensive activity report for 2025. They also provided information about conferences, cultural events, and social projects planned for 2026. Potential support from the Lübeck Municipality for these activities was discussed during the meeting.

Mayor Jan Lindenau reviewed the approximately 30-page activity report page by page. He made evaluations regarding some events he had previously attended and praised TÜRGEM's contributions to city life.

37-year archive work to be transferred to Lübeck City Archive

One of the important agenda items of the meeting was TÜRGEM's celebration of its 37th anniversary this year.

Association officials announced that an agreement had been reached following discussions with the Lübeck City Archive Management. Accordingly, it was agreed that important project files and institutional archives prepared over the years would be delivered to the Lübeck City Archive to contribute to the city's cultural memory.

Mayor Lindenau stated that he welcomed this initiative. He pointed out that the work in question holds value for the city's history.

İlyas Yiğit's meaningful gesture draws attention

One of the notable figures of the visit was 8-year-old İlyas Yiğit.

İlyas Yiğit, presenting flowers to Mayor Jan Lindenau, greeted the Mayor with the words, "Mr. Mayor, it was a great pleasure to meet you." His self-confidence and courtesy, despite his young age, earned the appreciation of those present at the meeting.

Mayor Lindenau also took a keen interest in İlyas Yiğit and conversed with him. He expressed his satisfaction with the answers he received to his questions.

City issues and social topics also discussed

TÜRGEM members participating in the visit had the opportunity to introduce themselves. Various social issues and citizens' demands were also shared with the Mayor. Mayor Lindenau listened carefully to the raised topics and took notes.

Visit concludes with evaluation meeting in city square

Following the meeting at the City Hall, the TÜRGEM delegation gathered in Lübeck's city square. The delegation evaluated the visit and engaged in cordial conversations. İlyas Yiğit's curiosity about history, culture, and social values was appreciated by the participants.

TÜRGEM officials expressed their belief that the constructive dialogue maintained with the Lübeck Municipality would make significant contributions to cultural and social projects to be carried out in the upcoming period.
