Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Federal Health Minister Nina Warken would be appointed Head of the Chancellery, and CDU Secretary General Karsten Linnemann would take her place.

Following the decision to appoint Federal Minister for Special Affairs and Head of the Chancellery Thorsten Frei in place of the resigning CDU/CSU Federal Parliamentary Group Leader Jens Spahn, it was finalized that CDU Federal Health Minister Nina Warken would take the vacant position, and CDU Secretary General Carsten Linnemann would be appointed in her stead.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced at a press conference held this morning that Nina Warken, who is also the Chairwoman of the CDU Women's Union, would become Federal Minister for Special Affairs and Head of the Chancellery. Merz stated that Nina Warken would be the 'first female Head of the Chancellery,' adding, 'Nina Warken, with whom we have cooperated in the same party for a long time, will be my greatest supporter.' Chancellor Merz also announced that CDU Secretary General Carsten Linnemann would be appointed to the Federal Health Ministry, which would be vacated by Warken. He also announced that Philipp Amthor, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, would assume the role of State Minister for Federal-State Relations within the Chancellery.

  While Thorsten Frei is widely expected to be elected CDU/CSU Federal Parliamentary Group Leader at the extraordinary session next Wednesday, CDU treasurer Franziska Hoppermann is also expected to become the party's Secretary General.
