Mayor Sevindi: Amasya Landfill Fire Cooling Down

The fire that broke out at the solid waste disposal facility's landfill site in Amasya continues to smolder on its 5th day.

A fire broke out on Sunday at the Amasya Solid Waste Disposal Facilities Union (AKAB) landfill site, located in the Boğazköy area, which is connected to the city center. The flames of the fire, whose cause has not yet been determined, were brought under control with the intervention of the teams.

After the flames were extinguished, the reaction continued beneath tons of solid waste. This situation led to internal combustion in the area.

Intense smoke and soot odor rising from the facility area are being felt in the neighborhoods of Amasya city center due to the effect of the wind.

Amasya Mayor Turgay Sevindi made a statement on his social media accounts. Sevindi stated that the fire at the solid waste facility had been extinguished, but cooling efforts were ongoing.

Sevindi noted that the area is approximately 30 decares in size. "This is an area where all of Amasya's waste is collected. As part of the cooling efforts, our work continues with trucks and construction equipment belonging to Amasya Municipality, Suluova Municipality, Ziyaret Municipality, Merzifon Municipality, and our Special Provincial Administration, as well as vehicles from private sector companies providing support. We will rid Amasya of the intense fog and odor as soon as possible," he said.
