Prof. Dr. Gülçin Yahya Kaçar: We Are an Art-Focused University

Prof. Dr. Gülçin Yahya Kaçar, who was appointed Rector of Ankara University of Music and Fine Arts by Presidential Decree, has assumed her duties. Kaçar stated, "Ankara University of Music and Fine Arts is our country's only art-themed university. I invite all young people who are confident and believe they are good in the field of art to take our university's entrance exams."

Kaçar made statements after assuming her duties following the appointment decision published in the Official Gazette.

Kaçar stated that she would serve as the third rector of the university, which has an 8-year history. She expressed that this duty is very valuable to her.

Kaçar, who began her tenure as an oud artist, composer, and academician, said, "I believe there will be peace wherever music and fine arts enter. First, after creating a peaceful atmosphere, we will organize numerous events here."

"We will have a universal approach based on national culture"

Emphasizing that national culture forms the basis of art education, Kaçar said, "I believe that an art community or art world without national culture cannot be universal. We will have a universal approach based on national culture. First, we will teach our students our traditions, our own music, and fine arts. Afterwards, we will strive to convey these both domestically and internationally."

Kaçar drew attention to the fact that the university is an institution providing art education. She stated, "We will first provide our students and young people with a vision as artists and enable them to become international artists. We must not remain local. As a university, we will achieve this expansion. We will ensure that our society re-evaluates its perception of culture and art, and we will strive to elevate society's perception of culture and art."

Kaçar stated that the university would also stand out with its theoretical aspects, research, music history, and musicology studies, alongside the performance aspect of art. She declared, "We will strive to provide added value in every respect. We aim to contribute first to our country, and then to the culture and art of the entire world."

"I invite our young people to take our university's entrance exams"

Referring to the special talent exams that will begin after the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS), Kaçar said that the exams in the faculties are conducted by competent jury members in their respective fields.

Kaçar emphasized that it is not possible to prepare for talent exams in the field of art at the last minute. She commented, "We will select the best students for this exceptional university. There are many competitors. They need to study hard and prepare well for their instruments and fields. Because exams in the field of art are not exams that can be won with last-minute efforts."

Kaçar said, "Ankara University of Music and Fine Arts is our country's only art-themed university. I invite all young people who are confident and believe they are good in the field of art to take our university's entrance exams. They should even take the master's and doctoral exams. They can be sure that they will be well-trained here. Now there is a different University of Music and Fine Arts here, a different understanding. From our roots towards the future, from the past towards the future, we will grow like a great plane tree, God willing."
