The Seferihisar district of İzmir attracts diving enthusiasts with its coves, especially around Sığacık, its reef structures suitable for different levels, and its rich underwater life. The increasing demand in the summer season is reflected in both trial dives and certified training programs.

Rich diving routes

Teos Corner, Sığacık Canyon, Fisherman's Boat Wreck, Coast Guard Boat Wreck, Amphora, Telegraph Cape, and Lego Hill are among the prominent diving spots in the region. Deep canyon walls, caves, and artificial reef areas offer divers different exploration options.

"Posidonia oceanica" seagrasses, endemic to the Mediterranean, and the presence of dense algae increase the oxygen level in the region. This environment provides a habitat for numerous creatures such as sea hares, octopuses, lobsters, moray eels, and schools of colorful fish.

Especially the colorful, fingernail-sized sea hares attract the attention of underwater photographers.

Training from beginner to advanced level

The activity that begins with the closing of schools further increases in July. Professional training, from trial dives to “dive master” and “3-star” levels, is provided in the region.

Murat Kaan Soysal, an instructor at TEOS Diver Diving Center, states that the high oxygen level created by the seagrasses supports a wide food chain, from small creatures to large predators.

Soysal says, “This situation attracts the attention of many divers and people interested in underwater photography. Training starts with trial dives, then continues with courses and recreational dives.”

"Underwater is a completely different world"

Kübra Dal, who came to Seferihisar for a holiday from Aksaray, says that diving is an experience everyone should try at least once. She states that she wants to dive regularly and receive training in the future.

Tolga Tumba from Seferihisar, who completed his first dive, explains that he overcame his initial anxiety thanks to professional instructors. Tumba says, “Underwater is truly a completely different world. Even though I just came out of the water, I want to dive again.”

Fatmanur Paşa, who was previously interested in rock climbing, also states that she was impressed by the variety of colors and creatures underwater. Paşa, noting that small marine creatures particularly caught her attention, plans to continue her diving training.
