Darende Bazaar: Post-Quake Construction to Conclude by Year-End

Significant progress has been made in the reconstruction of the old bazaar area in Darende district of Malatya, which was severely damaged in the Kahramanmaraş-centered February 6, 2023 earthquakes. 85% of the work on the new bazaar project has been completed.

The project, carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and Darende Municipality, continues as planned on an 8,000 square meter area, in accordance with the schedule.

The majority of the structural system and rough construction works for the new bazaar, which consists of four blocks, have been completed. The physical realization rate in the project has reached 85%.

As the construction enters its final stage, the interior partition walls of the workplaces have begun to be built. Finishing works, electrical, mechanical installations, and infrastructure manufacturing are also being carried out simultaneously.

The project consists of a total of 251 shops. Of these, 195 will be on the ground floor and 56 on the upper floor. Additionally, an indoor car park with a capacity for approximately 200 vehicles will also be available.

The project aims to revitalize the commercial life of the district after the earthquake. It aims for tradesmen to have safe and modern workplaces, for the parking needs in the district center to be met, and for the bazaar's fabric to be re-established.

Officials stated that the works are progressing in line with the planned schedule. The new bazaar is aimed to be completed and handed over to its rightful owners by the end of the year.
