Şanlıurfa: 8-Year-Old Evin Bayo Injured by Stray Dogs

In Suruç district of Şanlıurfa, stray dogs attacked 8-year-old Evin Bayo. Bayo was injured as a result of the attack.

In the incident that occurred in Hürriyet Neighborhood, Evin Bayo was rescued thanks to the intervention of bystanders.

The child, who was injured in various parts of her body, was first taken by her relatives to Suruç State Hospital, and then transferred to Şanlıurfa Mehmet Akif İnan Training and Research Hospital. It was stated that Evin Bayo's health condition is good after being discharged following her treatment.

Suruç District Governor Muhammed Furkan Tuna, District Gendarmerie Commander Gendarmerie Senior Lieutenant Ömer Lütfi Özcan, and Acting District Police Chief Mehmet Doğan visited Evin Bayo at her home and extended their get-well wishes to her family.

Evin Bayo recounted that the stray dogs bit her head, arm, shoulder, back, and hip.

Bayo stated that she passed out during the incident, saying, "When the dogs appeared in front of me, I fainted from fear. Then when I woke up, I was on the ground, they had bitten my head. When I woke up, they bit my hip. Then I slowly got up. All the blood was dripping onto my face. I couldn't see in front of me. A man took me to the doctor."

Bayo, stating that she was very scared by the attack, said, "I was very scared during the incident, I couldn't sleep at night. They should gather the dogs somewhere, put them in cages. I don't want them to bite anyone else."

Bayo noted that a total of 150 stitches were applied to her wounds.

Evin's cousin, Muhammed Bağ, said that the dogs bit Evin while they were trying to escape. Bağ stated that bystanders threw stones at the dogs to drive them away and took Evin to the hospital. He also expressed that they were very scared and couldn't do anything.

Grandfather Bahri Bayo stated that he came to Suruç as soon as he heard the news while working in Mersin and took care of his granddaughter. Bayo, who called for the collection of stray dogs, noted the following:

"They put a lot of stitches. Two nurses barely finished her stitches in 45 minutes. We also want the authorities to collect these stray dogs. They shouldn't bite anyone else. If that man passing by on the road hadn't come across the child, they would have killed her. The municipality doesn't care much about this issue. Everywhere is full of stray dogs."
