Namık Kemal House Welcomes 5,000 Visitors in First 6 Months

In Tekirdağ, Namık Kemal House, where the works of "poet of the homeland" Namık Kemal, a prominent figure in Turkish literature, and historical and cultural items donated by citizens are exhibited, was visited by 5,000 local and foreign visitors in the first 6 months of the year.

Built in the 19th century with Ottoman architecture, Namık Kemal House was opened to visitors in 1993. The restoration process was completed with the contributions of Tekirdağ Governorship, Tekirdağ Municipality, Namık Kemal Association, public institutions, non-governmental organizations, and teachers and students.

The museum exhibits Namık Kemal's works, archives, books, photographs, and newspapers he published. Additionally, historical and cultural items donated by citizens from their homes are also displayed here.

Sezai Kurt, President of the Namık Kemal Association and Manager of Namık Kemal House, stated that the house is now an important cultural center recognized not only in Turkey but also abroad.

Kurt noted that they host visitors from various countries throughout the year. "Every year, two or three tourist groups from Taiwan visit Namık Kemal House. In addition, we have guests from various European countries, especially Bulgaria, Greece, and Hungary, and recently from Iran. We received 5,000 visitors between January and June this year," he stated.

Kurt stated that Namık Kemal House attracts interest with its cultural and social events, adding that a significant portion of the visitors are students.

Kurt reported that many schools from Edirne, Kırklareli, and Istanbul, in addition to Tekirdağ, visit the house. "According to our records, over 5,000 students visit Namık Kemal House every year. Furthermore, academics and master's and doctoral students from Trakya University, Kırklareli University, Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, Istanbul University, and Marmara University also come here for research," he said.

Kurt noted an increase in the number of visitors coming for cultural tourism from cities such as Izmir, Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, and Antalya, especially in May, July, and August.

Ümran Özkan, one of the visitors to Namık Kemal House, said she came to Tekirdağ from Antalya after visiting historical sites.

Özkan, who had previously visited the Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial and its fronts, said, "I was very impressed by Namık Kemal House. I am someone who loves history very much. This place is one of the important values for our country. I recommend everyone to come and see it."
