The International Kapıkaya Nature Sports and Culture Festival (Kapıkayafest) has commenced with an opening ceremony in Samsun's Bafra district.
Hosted by Bafra Municipality, Kapıkayafest brings together nature and sports enthusiasts between the Asar and Kapıkaya neighborhoods.
On the second day of the festival, which is being held for the seventh time this year, participants filled the camping area. Activities such as paragliding, nature walks, climbing, canoeing, and pedal boating are taking place.
Bafra District Governor Mustafa Altınpınar spoke at the opening ceremony. Altınpınar stated that Kapıkayafest is a major event where sports, culture, art, and friendship converge.
Altınpınar emphasized that the festival contributes to the district's economy, tourism, and promotion. He also noted that it strengthens unity and solidarity. Altınpınar said, "I believe that the friendships formed through this festival, the joys shared, and the beautiful moments experienced will occupy a special place in our hearts and minds even years after the festival ends, remaining as pleasant memories. Therefore, it is our shared responsibility to protect and promote these beauties we see and experience around us, and to pass them on as a legacy to future generations."
Bafra Mayor Hamit Kılıç, on the other hand, stated that Bafra is one of Turkey's important plains. Kılıç noted that the district's history dates back a very long time.
Kılıç stated that thanks to the festival, Bafra hosts guests from all over Turkey. Kılıç said, "We have 240 runners, 250 paragliding pilots, and around 200 athletes who will be mountain trekking participating in the festival. It's a festival where perhaps 50-60 paragliders can glide in the air simultaneously. Therefore, I can very easily say that this festival is one of the most important festivals in the Black Sea region and Turkey."
Kılıç, conveying that the festival's slogan is "preserve nature, live sports," said, "Paragliding, hang gliding, paramotoring, water sports, boat trips, canoe races, mountain running, mountain trekking, and many competitions and events will take place simultaneously. Our festival will continue for four nights and five days. Our aim is to highlight Bafra's history, culture, social aspects, and tourism potential."
The festival will conclude on July 26.
