An important invitation has been extended from Frankfurt to Turkish theater and cinema actors in Germany.
Educator, actress, and writer Derya Şahin is awaiting actor candidates raised with two cultures for the practical workshop titled “Bilingualism in Acting.” The workshop will take place in Frankfurt on September 26 and 27, 2026.
The workshop titled “Mehrsprachigkeit im Schauspiel / Multilingualism in Acting” aims to transform the linguistic and cultural experiences of multilingual actors into artistic resources. This pilot project, prepared with the support of Hessen Film & Medien, will bring together actors and industry professionals from Germany and Turkey, creating a foundation for new professional connections and international collaborations.

<The workshop, developed to support the professional and artistic development of Turkish-origin multilingual actors raised in Germany, will be free of charge. The program, which will be attended by industry professionals from Turkey and Germany, will cover topics such as German and Turkish on-camera acting practice, international casting processes, audition workshops, artist rights, and awareness in the film industry.
Actors can apply for the program via thespianartschool.com. The training days will take place at ‘Nextstep Film- & Gründungszentrum’ in Frankfurt. Project coordinator Derya Şahin emphasized that the number of participants is limited and applications should be made as soon as possible.

<Şahin stated that she aims for bilingual actors to gain new perspectives in the international arena and contribute to their professional development. She noted that there would be subsequent formats after the two-day workshop.
Derya Şahin said, “I have been observing for years. Many Turkish-origin actors living in Germany possess valuable multilingual and intercultural experiences for international productions, as well as strong acting competence. All we need is more connections to bring these talents together and create access to the Turkish film industry.” Şahin stated that what is important is not just talent, but working consciously with the right people in the industry. She added that the film industry is a challenging field and requires endless training within the profession.
Speaking about her own experiences, Şahin said, “I also faced similar challenges in this process. I have been doing theater for 10 years, but artists need platforms where they can prove themselves.” Şahin pointed out that young actors can encounter linguistic differences when acting in two languages, emphasizing that their goal is to treat multilingualism not as an obstacle, but as a resource that can enhance an actor's artistic expressive power. Şahin stated that language and diction are areas that can be developed through training and practice, and the aim here is not just to use the language correctly, but to enable the actor to convey the same emotion and character depth in both languages.
She noted that the pilot project, prepared with support from Hessen Film & Medien, a renowned public institution in the film and art sector in Frankfurt, allows actors to consciously utilize their linguistic and cultural experiences as artistic resources. Şahin said that the project aims to bring new perspectives to multilingual acting and develop creative potentials. She added that the program encourages professional exchange, international cooperation, and the establishment of new professional connections by bringing together actors and industry professionals from Germany and Turkey.
In addition to acting in Germany, Derya Şahin has appeared in productions in Turkey such as Arka Sokaklar, Mevsim Çiçek Açtı, and Kül. In Frankfurt, she actively participates as a producer and actress in theater projects with the intercultural and women-themed theater group called Renkli Kadınlar.

Derya Şahin, who also continues her mathematics teaching in Frankfurt, described her profession as “sacred.” She expressed her feelings by saying, “Teaching is the meaning of life. Helping people, being influential in my students' paths nourishes me.” Şahin added that she puts a lot of effort into making her students love mathematics and succeed.
Derya Şahin, also a successful author, stated that she prepared her third mathematics resource book for middle and high school students during the summer holiday. She reported that her work would be on shelves next year by Westermann publishing house. Şahin noted that while preparing the book, she did not ignore students' interest in social media and used it extensively in examples, saying, “The examples include terms they use. It's both more convincing, more engaging, and increases focus.” Şahin stated that teachers are constantly looking for new ways to attract students' interest, and she spent this summer holiday preparing a supplementary mathematics book that would be useful for students.
Derya Şahin stated that art nourishes her as much as mathematics. Şahin said, “I have to do my teaching profession properly. But I also need to nourish my soul with art. Both education and art are about touching people, inspiring them, and leaving a mark. I find myself at the intersection of these two fields.”
