According to reports in the German press, an attempt to cause a short circuit was detected at an energy facility in Dormagen, North Rhine-Westphalia state. Police received a letter claiming responsibility for the act after the incident.

Following successive sabotage attempts targeting energy grids nationwide and the emergence of a letter claiming responsibility for the acts, security forces raised the alert level to the highest degree.

In the town of Ganderkesee in the north of the country, a transformer station was also cordoned off due to suspicious circumstances.

Manhunt launched for suspect

The investigation was expanded after the sabotage attempt in Dormagen. Security forces also began investigating the Weisweiler transformer station near Aachen. A police spokesperson stated that the letter claiming responsibility contained a new threat of attack against this facility. Teams are searching the area for suspicious ignition mechanisms.

The letter cited the fight against fossil fuels as the reason for the acts. A man living in Gevelsberg is believed to be behind the sabotages. Police launched a large-scale search to apprehend the suspect.

Wave of sabotage continues

Two more major sabotage incidents have been added to Germany's energy grid since the beginning of the week. An act of vandalism was carried out at a transformer station in Bergheim. As a result, lignite power plant units with a capacity of 4,200 megawatts were temporarily disconnected from the grid.

At the same time, one of the critical high-voltage lines in Brandenburg state was also damaged. It was stated that devices containing conductive materials were used.
