A 19-year-old who was severely injured in a traffic accident in Kahramanmaraş was declared brain dead. The young man's donated organs became a source of hope for three patients awaiting transplants.
The young man had been involved in a traffic accident with his father on July 17. Health teams transported him to Kahramanmaraş Necip Fazıl City Hospital.
During his treatment in the intensive care unit, he was diagnosed with brain death today.
Dr. Mehmet Ali Düzkale, Organ Transplant Coordinator at Necip Fazıl City Hospital, and hospital officials met with the family regarding organ donation. With the family's consent, the organ transplant process began.
Dr. Aziz Bulut and his team from Gaziantep University Kahraman Eruslu Kidney Transplant Hospital arrived in Kahramanmaraş to retrieve the organs.
During an operation lasting approximately three hours, the liver and two kidneys were retrieved. The liver was sent to Gaziantep University Kahraman Eruslu Kidney Transplant Hospital. One kidney was delivered to Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Health Practice and Research Hospital, and the other to Kayseri Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine Hospital. The organs became a source of hope for patients awaiting transplants.
Dr. Düzkale stated that the donated organs would offer life hope to three patients.
Emphasizing the importance of organ donation, Dr. Düzkale made the following statements: "After the diagnosis of brain death, we informed the family about the process. Our patient's family responded positively to this situation. During an operation lasting approximately 3 hours, the liver and 2 kidneys were retrieved. We hope these organs will help patients awaiting transplants to recover. I also thank our family for their valuable sacrifice."
Meanwhile, the young man's father continues to receive treatment at the hospital.
