Haldun Güler Elected Çankaya Deputy Mayor

The Çankaya Municipal Council convened following the suspension of the arrested Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner. In the election held, Haldun Güler was determined as the deputy mayor.

Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Mayor Güner had been arrested on charges of "forming a criminal organization," "bribery," and "rigging bids." Following this arrest, Güner was suspended from duty, and the council convened for the election of a deputy mayor.

At the municipal building, during the meeting chaired by Council 1st Deputy Speaker Veli Şahin, Fevzi Gümüş and Haldun Güler were nominated for the deputy mayoral position.

In the first round of the two-round election, Haldun Güler received 30 votes, while Fevzi Gümüş received 6 votes. In this round, 5 blank votes and 2 invalid votes were recorded.

In the second round, Haldun Güler received 37 votes, while Fevzi Gümüş remained at 2 votes. 3 blank votes and 1 invalid vote were cast.

With this result, Haldun Güler was elected Çankaya Municipality Deputy Mayor.

Following the election, Güler stated in his speech: "We will continue all the services initiated by our mayor, Hüseyin Can Güner, with a transparent management approach, without interruption, until justice is served and our mayor returns to his duty. We will continue to provide our workers with their rights at the highest standards."
