New prayer areas have been opened in Terminal 2 at Cologne Bonn Airport, just before the summer holiday period in North Rhine-Westphalia. These areas are located directly opposite departure gate D60 and are accessible to passengers 24 hours a day. With the new prayer areas, the airport is further enhancing its services for Muslim travelers and responding to the needs of its international passengers.

Cenk Özöztürk, General Manager of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH, says, “Our goal is to make the time spent at the airport as comfortable as possible for all our guests. Part of this is continuously improving the travel comfort of our passengers.” He adds, “Turkey, in particular, is an important target market for us. Therefore, we want to offer the best possible service to these passengers. The new prayer areas now provide much more space and comfort for Muslim travelers and form an important part of our expanded range of services.”

TERMINAL 2

In recent weeks, two new and modern, separate prayer areas for women and men have been created in Terminal 2, the airport's non-Schengen terminal. All flights to Turkey, as well as services to other destinations with a large Muslim population such as Egypt, Morocco, or Jeddah, depart from here. While the previous areas consisted of two small cabins, the new sections offer space for up to ten people simultaneously. The rooms, each six by three meters in size, have been equipped with high-quality carpets. Additionally, extra prayer rugs are kept ready for use if needed.

DIRECTION OF MECCA

The airport also placed great importance on accurately indicating the direction of Mecca. The Qibla direction was meticulously calculated and marked with signs in both prayer areas. Information notices prepared in German, English, Turkish, and Arabic state that passengers can rely on the indicated Qibla direction.

With the new prayer areas, Cologne/Bonn Airport is taking another significant step within its “Next Chapter” program, aimed at increasing travel comfort and the quality of stay at the airport for its international guests. Travelers from Turkey, in particular, and those from other countries with a majority Muslim population, benefit from this expanded service.
