The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party reached 29.5% support, while the Christian Union parties (CDU/CSU) remained at 19.5% in the first public opinion poll conducted in Germany after the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Berlin state elections.

According to the poll conducted by the INSA public opinion research company for the "Bild" newspaper, the difference between AfD and CDU/CSU increased to 10 points. Thus, AfD reached the 29.5% level for the first time in INSA's regular public opinion polls.

In the previous poll dated September 20, AfD's support was measured at 29%, and CDU/CSU's support at 20%.

In the poll, the support rates for the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Greens were measured at 13.5% each. The Left Party ranked fifth with 10.5%.

INSA's data from recent weeks shows that AfD maintains its high support rate. While the party was measured in the 28-29% range in most polls conducted since the end of August, it reached the highest level in the series with 29.5% in the September 22 poll.

Furthermore, the same poll revealed that almost half of German voters would favor early general elections if Chancellor Friedrich Merz were to resign.

45% of respondents stated that they would want new general elections to be held if Merz were to step down.
