According to a poll conducted by the GMS research firm, the AfD reached 30% support nationwide.

Friedrich Merz's party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), along with its Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU), remained at 20%.

This figure marked the lowest support level GMS has ever measured for the CDU/CSU.

According to the poll, the Green Party has 14% support, while the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Left Party each have 11%.

The CDU's heavy defeat against the AfD in the Saxony-Anhalt elections has also reignited discussions within the party regarding Merz's leadership.

While German media has been speculating for weeks about a possible change in chancellorship, Hendrik Wüst, the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, is being named among potential successors to Merz.
