Activists from the environmental organization Robin Wood in Germany climbed onto the roof of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) headquarters in Berlin. The activists protested the government's climate policies and the CDU's stance against the rise of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

The activists hung a banner on the roof of the CDU headquarters building that read: "A clear stance against the far-right - End social cuts, fight the climate crisis."

Robin Wood activist Hanni Probst stated that the CDU has relegated climate protection to the background. Probst added that the government has not put forward a sufficient policy to stop the rise of the AfD.

Probst stated, "Social justice policy is the best way to stop the rise of the far-right. For this, climate policy and social measures must be implemented together."

Probst criticized the energy policy of CDU leader Friedrich Merz and Katherina Reiche. Probst commented, "If they pursue a policy that disregards the will of the people alongside the gas lobby, they should not be surprised if they have to pay the price in elections."
Berlin Police Spokesperson Florian Nath stated that the activists climbed onto the roof in the early morning hours and hung banners on the facade of the headquarters.
Nath noted that an activist who wanted to film the protest with a drone was briefly detained on the grounds of endangering air traffic.
Due to the protest, extensive security measures were taken around the CDU headquarters building. Headquarters employees used a different entrance instead of the main gate to get to work.
