Flood in Kastamonu's Cide: Evacuations begin, cleanup underway

Residents living on ground floors in Kastamonu's Cide district were evacuated due to the floods that occurred.

According to a statement from the Governorship, following the General Directorate of Meteorology's heavy rainfall warnings, the Disaster Working Groups of the Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) were put on alert in the city. Construction equipment, vehicles, and personnel were deployed by the DSI 23rd Regional Directorate, Highways 15th Regional Directorate, Kastamonu Regional Directorate of Forestry, AFAD Provincial Directorate, and Kastamonu Provincial Special Administration to risky areas in coastal districts such as Cide, Doğanyurt, İnebolu, Abana, Bozkurt, and Çatalzeytin.

In Cide district, more than 150 homes, workplaces, and warehouses were submerged around 04:00. Some vehicles were stranded in floodwaters. No loss of life occurred in the flood. Residents on ground floors were evacuated to safe areas. Those who requested it were accommodated in dormitories in the district center.

With the decrease in rainfall and water levels, transportation in the district returned to normal. Following the floods, cleanup operations were immediately launched in the district center. 84 personnel are participating in these efforts. In these operations, 7 vacuum trucks, 18 motor pumps, 6 submersible pumps, and 3 boats, as well as numerous construction machines and vehicles, are being used. TAMP disaster groups are continuing their work in the district center.
