8 Rescued from Sinking Boat in Lake Hazar, Elazığ

Eight people on a boat that was taking on water in Lake Hazar, located in Elazığ's Sivrice district, were evacuated.

The boat, carrying seven visitors, including one child, and the owner Mehmet Bahçeci, who were on a tour of the lake, began taking on water from its engine compartment.

Noticing the situation, Bahçeci requested help from lifeguards waiting on the shore and from the 112 Emergency Call Center.

112 Emergency Health, AFAD, UMKE, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area.

Lifeguards at the facility reached the boat that was taking on water using a jet ski and another boat.

The lifeguards and Bahçeci transferred the visitors, who were wearing life jackets, to the other boat and brought them to shore.

After the transfer, the boat that had been taking on water sank.

Medical teams waiting on the shore reported that the visitors were in good health.

Business owner Bahçeci made a statement to reporters. He stated that the boat, which he was using to give a group of guests at the facility an island tour, began taking on water from its engine compartment.

Bahçeci stated that he immediately reported the situation to the lifeguards and the 112 Emergency Call Center, and said the following:

"We had 7 guests, including one child, and all of them were wearing life jackets. We quickly and safely carried out their evacuation with the help of our lifeguard friends, using a jet ski and a boat. Everyone was brought to shore, and thankfully, everyone is well."
