The Turkish Community of Berlin-Brandenburg (TBB) issued a call to all voters ahead of the September 2026 elections. The TBB urged people to go to the polls for democracy, human rights, diversity, and social solidarity.

Ahead of the Berlin State Parliament elections and the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the TBB emphasized that these elections are critical for Germany's democratic future.

The TBB noted that the September 2026 elections will determine not only political majorities but also the future way of coexistence in society. The association invited all eligible citizens to vote in favor of democracy, human rights, diversity, and solidarity.

The statement highlighted that the AfD is participating in the elections with high public support, especially in Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It was stated that far-right and discriminatory policies threaten social cohesion.

The TBB criticized the AfD's policies on migration, integration, education, culture, and art in its Saxony-Anhalt election program. It was stated that these approaches tend to pit different social groups against each other and question Germany's diversity-based immigration society.

TBB Board Spokesperson Ayşe Demir emphasized that the elections are critical for the future of society:

“These elections will not only decide political majorities. They will also determine how we want to live together in the future. Democracy thrives on diversity, mutual respect, and the equal dignity of all people. Not on exclusion and polarization.”

The TBB noted an increase in racist, antisemitic, and anti-Muslim incidents in recent years. It was also stated that the language in public debates has become harsher.

It was stated that far-right ideologies target not only people with a migration background but also the fundamental principles of a democratic rule of law. It was highlighted that the equality of all people and diversity in society are being questioned.

Ayşe Demir said that many people who reached out to the TBB are concerned about the future. She conveyed that families are worried about their children's future, discrimination, and security.

Demir stated, “The fact that people are worried about being subjected to further exclusion and discrimination, or even their physical safety, is an extremely serious warning sign for our democracy.”

The TBB expressed concern that far-right and inhumane rhetoric is influencing political debates.

It was emphasized that strategies that pit social groups against each other, promote exclusion, and weaken democratic institutions jeopardize solidarity and trust in democracy.

In its pre-election call, the TBB invited all voters to cast their ballots. It urged them to take a stand for democracy, human rights, equality, diversity, and social solidarity at the polls.

The TBB's message is clear: The September 2026 elections will determine the future of democracy, the culture of coexistence, and social solidarity in Germany.
