Nuri Çoban: Expert Support and Data Crucial for YKS University Choices

Nuri Çoban, Co-founder of Tuyun Academy and Psychological Counselor, stated that expert support is critical during the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) university choice period. Çoban said that students' interests, abilities, and personality traits must align with the desired department.

The university choice period, which will begin with the announcement of YKS results, is the most critical stage that determines the direction of candidates' education and professional lives.

Although exam scores and success rankings outline the technical framework of the university choice list, a correct university placement relies on the proper matching of the candidate's interests, abilities, and personal characteristics with the curriculum and employment opportunities of the chosen department.

Choices based solely on scores or popularity can lead to losses of time and resources in higher education, such as course failure, changing majors, transferring, or dropping out of undergraduate education to retake the exam.

Accessing accurate information and filtering options objectively during the university choice process plays a decisive role in candidates making the healthiest decision.

Education experts and psychological counselors point out that receiving data-driven and professional guidance support at this stage minimizes the risk of making incorrect choices.

Inadequate Career Planning Leads to Time Loss

Çoban emphasized that irreversible consequences arise if mistakes are made in career planning, stating the following:

"At this point, we essentially bring the process together from the very beginning. Our career psychological counselors, who are PDR graduates, conduct sessions with students. In these sessions, with expert support on topics such as getting to know the individual, goal setting, psychological resilience, exam anxiety, and career planning, we actually get to know the individual through various tests and inventories administered to the student and create a roadmap accordingly. Our students start the exam process without having yet discovered their personal characteristics; at the beginning of the journey, they don't know themselves, the departments, or the universities. At this point, with the career psychological counseling service we provide, we support them in getting to know both the universities and departments, and also themselves."
