Abdullah Uslu: YKS TYT Top Scorer Targets Industrial Engineering

Abdullah Uslu, who came first in Turkey in the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) session, organized by the Presidency of the Measuring, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), plans to choose the industrial engineering department.

Abdullah Uslu, an 18-year-old graduate of Eskişehir Fatih Science High School and the eldest child of Deniz and Mehmet Bahri Uslu, scored a perfect 500 points in the 2026 YKS TYT session on June 20, placing him among Turkey's top scorers. Uslu also ranked 21st in the numerical section of the Field Proficiency Test (AYT) with 496 points.

Uslu, who made his family proud, aims to study industrial engineering at one of the state universities in Istanbul or Ankara. He stated that he wants to study at Boğaziçi, Middle East Technical, or Istanbul Technical universities.

In a statement to reporters, Abdullah Uslu said that he went through a regular preparation process before the YKS. Uslu, stating that he was a student who prioritized his lessons throughout his school life, said, "This year, I increased that importance a bit more. I rested when I needed to. I also made time for my social life. As a result, I achieved a result I never expected. When studying, I would set a topic. When the topic was finished, my study session was also finished."

Uslu stated that during the preparation process, he studied 3 hours a day on weekdays and 7 hours on weekends. Uslu, who said he usually spent this time in the library, added, "I enrolled in a cram school but didn't attend the classes. I only benefited from their practice exams. I didn't take private lessons either. I studied on my own."

Uslu, who stated that he stayed with his aunt Neslihan Uslu in Eskişehir, said, "Due to my study pace in the last year, I rarely came to Bilecik. I was usually here during mid-term breaks."

Uslu advised candidates preparing for the YKS to "study systematically." Uslu, emphasizing that rest should not be neglected during this process, noted the following: "Until recently, I dedicated one day a week to rest. I kept Sundays free. Also, in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades, I was in my school's theater club. I believe these social activities positively reflected on my success."

Abdullah Uslu's mother, 44-year-old Deniz Uslu, said she was proud of her son. Uslu, stating that they started the day with happy news, said, "He has never upset us about anything since he was little. He has always been successful. Abdullah is a responsible child. He has now crowned this with his success."

His father, 46-year-old Mehmet Bahri Uslu, a mechanical engineer, also stated that they experienced great excitement when they first learned the result. Uslu, stating that they were always by their son's side, said, "We were expecting a good result, but the first-place finish was also a surprise for us. From that perspective, there's a different kind of excitement."
