Gaziantep Introduces 'Clean Construction System' Digital Platform

The "Clean Construction System" digital platform, developed to increase transparency in public construction projects, was introduced in Gaziantep.

The platform, which was launched in 2012 in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, was made available through the collaboration of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Turkey, the UNDP Seoul Policy Centre (USPC), and Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality.

The platform aims for transparent communication and information sharing among local governments, companies, and citizens in public construction projects carried out after the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes on February 6, 2023.

Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin stated in her speech at the program that they are working in close cooperation with United Nations institutions.

Şahin drew attention to the importance of collaborations to make the world more resilient and noted the following:

"Unity of thought, discourse, and action is needed. We must protect our common planet, nature, soil, water, and air. If we cannot protect the soil, water, and air, we cannot protect our children. As your sister who has been to Antarctica and seen the glaciers melting, I am very worried. The way to overcome this worry and conquer fear is to do our own work well."

UNDP Turkey Resident Representative Monica Merino emphasized the importance of citizens having access to accurate information regarding post-earthquake building, road, and infrastructure repair efforts. Merino stated that the platform was developed to meet this need.

Merino stated that Gaziantep stands out with its resilience, productivity, and rich cultural heritage. She noted that the platform was inspired by the Seoul Metropolitan Government's application and adapted to Gaziantep's local needs.

Lim Chun-geun, Head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Infrastructure Headquarters, stated that the application is used in 9 countries.

Chun-geun stated that the platform has been localized to suit the national conditions of each country and contributes to overcoming problems. He expressed his hope that the project would continue as a continuously evolving system tailored to the Metropolitan Municipality's needs.

Gaziantep Deputy Governor Sedat Sezik, UNDP Turkey Goodwill Ambassador Mert Fırat, representatives of institutions and organizations, and invited guests attended the program.
